Hi - Doctoral student in need of many more people to complete a 10-minute survey about training & training evaluation issues. In particular, EXECUTIVE-level particpants are desperately needed. I would be grateful if you would forward the survey invitation/link (below) to any executives you think would be willing to take the quick survey. OR, if anyone has any ideas on other ways i can recruit these participants, i would appreciate hearing them.

Hello -
You are invited to participate in an online survey of training-related decisions, expectations, and evaluation data preferences. Under the guidance of Dr. Kurt Kraiger, Penny Palmer, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Tulsa, is executing this research in order to collect data for her dissertation project.

This survey is being conducted to understand more about how individuals in a variety of organizations feel about training and training evaluation. It only takes about 10 minutes to complete the survey!

The online survey includes questions about the types of training investment decisions you make, the outcomes you expect to result from training, and the training evaluation criteria you would most likely use to make training-related decisions. In addition, you are asked to complete some job/demographic information so that group differences can be examined. No individual-level data will be released about any survey responses.

In return for your participation, you may request a copy of the survey results. This report will provide information on the types of training-related investments, outcome expectations, and evaluation data preferences of a variety of training stakeholders (e.g., executives, managers, individual contributors). Knowing more about the various perspectives, interests, and needs of training's stakeholders can be useful in many ways. For example, providing organizational members with the type of training-related information that is found to be compelling can, in turn, facilitate more effective decision-making.

This survey is very important - I hope you will agree to participate!

Pcpalmer950,

Why is STRUCTURED on-the-job training (i.e., FORMAL OJT) not included in your survey? Informal training, which you are defining as on-the-job training, is the very WORST type "training" on record, and as such should be discouraged by every competent training professional as just plain wrong. Any on-the-job training that is advocated in any way should be STRUCTURED on-the-job training.

There is a big distinction between structured OJT and what you are calling informal training. So, please clarify that in your survey. It should read instead: informal training (UNstructured on-the-job training.) Also, please include on your survey, STRUCTURED on-the-job training (FORMAL on-the-job training). Otherwise, you are perpetuating the myth that informal training (or what you call on-the-job training) as a credible form of training.
