I am in Leadership Development within healthcare and we are finding that self report on level 3 evals may be lacking and want to look at having managers fill out an evaluation as well. This would be on topics such as patient care and mutual respect/conflict resolution skills, among others. I'd just like to get a feel for best practices in surveying participants vs. supervisors/managers; if you have any thoughts or samples, I'd much appreciate the feedback.

Make sure that you include questions about other equally important performance factors, and evaluate same before and after the training event. For example:
Consider all of the tools (e.g. computer, applications, equipment, etc.) necessary to do this job/task/skill at full proficiency -- Does the learner have all of the necessary tools readily available to him/her? Consider all of the resources (people, books, etc.) necessary to do this job/task/skill at full proficiency -- Does the learner have all of the necessary resources readily available to him/her? Those are just two... there are more. Of course, your analysis probably produced answers to those questions, but its very enlightening and educational to have both the participants and managers answer those types of questions on these types of evaluations. It helps remind them that there's more to performance than training, and it helps provide you with valuable insight to each individual participant's environment (along with their perceptions of it). |
