My work at Ford was informed by the extensive work of Geert Hofstede. One of the most important characteristics of India is its enormous size and diversity so you are always in danger when you generalize. Nevertheless, Hofstede has some ideas that are research based, interesting and very helpful.

Good Luck!

Adult learning is fairly different in India. Few points to note:

a. People prefer instructor led trg.
b. Learning by example or thru case studies is faster instead of conducting theory sessions.
c. Audience has an intent to change.

Adult learning in India is NOT one size fits all:
- differs in metros and cities when compared with semi urban and rural areas
- is highly gender specific
- men and women have different learning skills due to widely differing attitudes
- has cultural and caste differences

While perhaps not a scientific evaluation it is useful to imagine there are two cultures in each country with an emerging economy. One is the "legacy" culture which is driven by traditional historic forces (see Hofstede) -- family, power distance, etc. The other is what I think of as a universal, global culture that is driven in essentially the same way everywhere now: consumerism, upward mobility, and so on. These value systems influence the learning styles, and accross each you get a normal distribution of various kinds of "learning styles."
