Calling all Experts!
Hi, I have just joined a company where in my first quarter my manager resigned and I was left holding the department. I have alot of experience in T&D and as part of my analysis on how to "introduce" the new and improved training department is asking others in my field who may have gone through something like this. What are the fundamentals that should be included in rebuilding a department? What structure should be in place to all me the opportunity to succeed and allow employees the ability to learn...If you could build your ideal T&D Dept what would you include? Any suggestions?

Hi JM,

I read through the previous messages thank you for sending them. Although the request for information regarding an initial build is the same what I am looking for is structures put into place that would allow the department a strong foundation. I am in the medical industry, I am not looking for an app to fix the problem more so the structures managers have out in place to achieve their goals for the future. Would it help if I gave an example: Mission Statments, New Program Creation, Cleaning existing programs etc. I would like to hear from everyone on how they designed their departments what worked and what didn't. Does this help?

I'm also building from the ground up, everything from systems, to process, to communications, etc. I wish I had programs to clean up.

I was curious about software as I'm used to package software that deals with organizational and doc creation as an attorney. There are literally "law firms in a box" suites of software and was curious if there was anything similar for the training industry.

But that was only a small element of my inquiry - I'm also interested in the exact same things you are.

Although it's been 6 weeks now and I seem to be putting something together. We'll see how solid it is as it develops...LOL.

I find that there are great software out there for trainers however its either to enhance, entertain or maintain an existing training program. I am finding it really hard to find people to identify what they believe are fundamentals to training, I also came from a legal background and am used to a quick fix...but sadly can't say that I have found anything including books. Lots of experts telling you how to maintain, improve, get rid of training but none on how to build...is there anyone who has any info on this
