I must develop a program to assist new executives (or senior-level management). And I am in the process of investigating information pertaining to corporate mentoring. Specifically, I have been asked to investigate a mentoring program for new executives—perhaps something that may involve job shadowing, corporate culture education, etc.
This is something that will go above and beyond basic management development, coaching, and other programs that are offered. Do you have any experience with this? Any suggestions on resources or books?
Has anyone ever designed or implemented a mentoring (or preceptor) program for an organization? Perhaps my organization is approaching this in a unique manner--something not typically done by an OD department (?).
Any suggestions on best practices, resources, or lessons learned would be appreciated.
Could you be more specific as to the success expectations of your program for new executives? Have you completed an assessment ? What are the resources available ? Does CEO support this and how far? Whose idea is this ? Time factor. You know the usual stuff.
This is not yet a project. No assessment--early stages of consideration only. There is a successful preceptor program for doctors (medical institution), and we are tossing around the idea of creating something similar for executives or senior-level managers. Investigating only....and seeing what's out there, if anything. So far, no luck aside from coaching-type programs and information...but it's early in the game. Thank you for the clarification request.
Ask top managers to name whom they would like to have an extended conversation. I have done this and it works. No haggling about cost its for them, private and ego building.
