Hi--
We are searching for a team development simulation that will serve as a final experience for a leadership development program for new managers in a healthcare environment. Specifically, a simulation that includes consensus decision-making, general problem-solving, synergistic decision-making,comparing individual decisions with team decision, group behavior, and other team dynamics. My search has revealed some of the more popular survival-type programs, but would love to know of other possible gems. Any suggestions? Fyi...this program would replace a top of the line simulation. We are seeking to reduce program costs. |

We have some free training resources on our website that will provide you with alternatives to the 'survival' type exercises. In particular you should check out our training games section, where you will find an assortment of useful training activities of this nature.

Why don't you have them tackle some organizational challenges and task them finding an implementing solutions? Split them up into smaller teams and provide them with organization or team wide challenges you have identified through employee surveys or other measurable methods. Give them a template and timeline to follow. This way you accomplish all of your goals: team bulding, problem solving, measuring the success of the leadership program etc. I have used this in the past for leadership programs with great results. I have a hard time seeing the benefit in providing some kind of external, team building simulation unless the goal is comraderie building. Avi avionod.wordpress.com |

I'm not sure how it would fit into your budget, but you might want to try Friday Night at the ER (www.fridaynightattheer.com). It's a system thinking board game that covers most of the areas you're looking for. I've run it for a group of health care managers with excellent results. If you're interested, you'll probably want to "google" to find a facilitator in your area.
Hope this helps, John |
