Dear All

This is my second post on ASTD. I am trying to revamp the Induction program in my organization. A series of PPTs afetr PPTs becomes very boring. Would need some ideas as to how I can make it interesting? I would also like to BRAND this event.... looking forward to your suggestions.

Cheers

I believe the US term is 'Onboarding'.

Have you thought of using a 'discovery' process, where participants go around the company finding information out for themselves? This could incorporate a buddy system and perhaps some job sharing too.

If there is large scale information that needs to be put across, consider using the intranet to store this and provide headline information during any discussions, so that it is not all PowerPoint.

There's loads of ideas on here fom previous discussions if you do a search.

One of the suggestions we typically make is to create a pre-work assignment that the new-hire must read or research and tell them that there will be a test on Day 1. Of course the reading/research must be based on the information during the onboard process (i.e. Company background, history, etc.).

The new-hires are usually motivated to do this because they want to make a good impression on Day 1 of the new job.

Then, on Day 1 play a game from what they should have learned.

I mean no offense here - but if I were told as a new hire that I would have a test on Day 1 and/or that we would be playing a game based on what we had learned, I would immediately start a very serious job hunt. Aren't you dealing with mature adults here?

This kind of thing usually reflects poorly on the rest of the organization - in my mind anyway.
