Our executive team has an offsite coming up in about 2 months. They have asked me to create a "development opportunity" for them at the offsite.
I would like them to go through a generic leadership 360 (none of them have had one in years) and have a consultant debrief them individually and as a group. I am hoping this will help them understand their perceptions of each other as well as how they are perceived by their direct reports.
Ideally, this will allow them to increase their ability to collaborate moving forward and provide a model for the rest of the organization. (Read between the lines).
Has anyone had any experience with this type of initiative? What have you used and how has it worked? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Hello Dvsnhd99:

>Our executive team has an offsite coming up in about 2 months. They have asked me to create a "development opportunity" for them at the offsite.<

Have you inquired about what they mean by a "development opportunity"?

>I would like them to go through a generic leadership 360 (none of them have had one in years) and have a consultant debrief them individually and as a group.<

That is a good idea if all people are prepared to give honest feedback and to receive honest feedback.

>I am hoping this will help them understand their perceptions of each other as well as how they are perceived by their direct reports.<

Many supervisors blame there direct reports when the direct reports rate them poorly.

>Ideally, this will allow them to increase their ability to collaborate moving forward and provide a model for the rest of the organization. (Read between the lines).<

360 programs can fail when change is too slow in coming.

We use a 360 and we providea web based training modules to help managers improve in the areas identified in their feeback reports.

Changing other peoples behavior is even harder than changing our own behavior and changing our own behavior is almost impossible for most.

Thanks for your response.
They are comfortable with me suggesting a development opportunity.
They will absolutely get honest feedback from their reports and peers, they have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. I am not so sure about receiving...
I have a feeling that the ratings they will receive from peers will be similar to that of their reports, we'll see.
They will need a lot of hand holding for the debrief portion.
I need a consultant who can "own" the whole package. Creating the 360, providing some rater training, reporting the results and debriefing live at the offsite. It must be a consultant who has worked at the senior most levels.
Thanks

Great, that is a good start.

Few of us enjoy such an event. :-)

That bodes well.

Maybe less than you imagine if the 360 is robust.

Creating a new a 360 takes huge effort. The one we use started with moer than a thousand questions and after much effort the number of questions were reduced to 70.

No need at all for there to be anything generic about your project. The behaviors and practices assessed should be linked to the goals and performance expectations of your company.

An affordable, anonymous/confidential, 100% custom 360 project for your executives can be built and administered, along with the reports and individual/group debriefs.

You can gather targeted feedback for as many individuals as you wish...from as many individuals as you wish.

Regarding your need for

a consultant who can "own" the whole package. Creating the 360, providing some rater training, reporting the results and debriefing live at the offsite. It must be a consultant who has worked at the senior most levels.
.....we qualify on all counts

Am happy to help.
