Can anyone point me to industry data/metrics that show the impact of training/development intervention on employee retention? I'm looking for quantifiable research that show's the trend between these two factors.

Try starting your research by putting this search term in google:
employee retention training site:.edu Site:.edu keeps your results to educational web sites only - usually more reliable, valid info. Also, if you have access to a college/university library, that would be a good place to do your research. |

If you are a member of SHRM, you can research their information for metrics. If it is not available on their website, they also provide assistance via phone.
I just summarized an article for a class that discussed the positive impact the employer was having on retention and productivity as a result of tranining and development. The article is in the November 2007 issue of HR Magazine and is titled, A Lesson in Learning. |

D. Gilmore:
Your search would be better served by using instead of trend, think of correlation or relationship. Retention is the business of the organization therefore what type of training for who and by whom ? What prompted this question "training ground for the industry" ? If so perhaps the real suspect is $ or lack of opportunity, poor supervision, poor selection methods......... Nero |
