Hello,
What are some best practices that your organization (past or present) has utilized in developing high potential mid-senior leaders (i.e. preparing Director level for VP level). Any practices you can share or contact information for more details? Thanks. |

For starters, I recommend the book Leaders at All Levels, by Ram Charan.

I strongly recommend contacting Paul Hottle and Associates. I'm afraid I don't know if he has a web presence yet, though. He's located in Maryland.

Susan, we're doing a series of initatives including individuals development plans, 360 Feedback, inserting them into Action Learning Teams, an annual Leadership Academy, and other similar initatives. For those preparing for President we're sending them to the Executive Business school at Harvard.
We started by identifing our company's core leader competencies. Then did an 360 to see how our leaders rank relative to the core competencies. We use the gaps developed from the 360 as drivers for improvement. |

Dan A's comments are important. While my consulting practice handles design and administration of 360's for clients they are only a tool in a larger developmental strategy. Your developmental efforts will really take off when you systematically use the feedback to create individual development plans and support them with learning, coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job reinforcement by others. In doing so the hi-pos are identified and, of maybe even more importance, everyone improves. Here are a few more thoughts: http://360fyi.blogspot.com/200...ck-used-to_2510.html |
