I've got buy-in from our executive team for establishing our company management and leadership core competencies. We are going to go through some exercises to do so.

Some of our key participants like to read about key concepts and have requested some recommended literature to help them understand what we should focus on in this arena for our company.

Please send any suggestions... articles (i.e., HRB) would be best. If you have a book you'd recommend, please send that as well - but keep in mind these folks are very business driven and have very little time.

I appreciate any suggestions you have! - Bonnie

Our organization has introduced a management and executive leadership training program. In entails:

1. 360 feedback tool
2. Myers-Briggs assessment
3. Performance Management training series
4. Core Competency training

We have worked with an organizational consultant that assisted us in creating the leadership core competencies. He is in the process of training all managers each month on one core competency.

So far, the program has reaped INCREDIBLE results. Not only are executive leaders and managers more aware of who they are and how they manage, but they are more strategic and forward-thinking.

If you would like to get his contact information, please call me at 651-229-1438 or e-mail me at sfetterman@tpt.org.

I hope this helps.

It is difficult to suggest material not knowing where your organization is on the corporate lifecyle. An entrepreneurial enterprise moving to the next level would require different material, despite the needs of the individuals, than a more mature organization. Knowing the type of business and their background would be essential.

We are definitely an entrepreneurial enterprise moving to the next level.... We are not looking for process suggestions at this time, nor a consultant to work with, we are really just looking for some reading to help get the executive team focused on what it means to identify the leadership competencies for success in our organization - as a prelude to management/leadership development and eventual succession planning.

Any reading suggestions would be greatly appreciated! - Bonnie

Usually, the organization moving to another level
needs to have in place its new unique business model
with the appropriate competencies already identified long BEFORE they are needed.
In short competencies are derived from the new business model (structure, org design, strategy)and they are for the most part evident. For sources check
best practices (but be real careful), competition, your trade association, lessons from other companies that made the transition or did not. Try Practice of Management and Corporate Life Cycles, also material on Organizational Turnarounds can be helpful.
A word, nobody least of all me is attempting to solicit business on this discussion board. I find it gauche to do so. Nevertheless, the best of luck.
